Privacy Policy
The short version. We collect what we need to put you around the fire: your Twitch or email login, what you create and do in Campfire, and your purchase status. Card details stay with Stripe. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and we don't use tracking or analytics cookies. You can delete your account yourself at any time.

1. Who we are
Campfire (campfireclub.lol and its desktop app, overlays and browser sources) is operated by Jared DeFriese, an individual sole proprietor ("Campfire", "we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information described here. Contact: support@campfireclub.lol.
2. What we collect
From you and your Twitch account
- Account details. If you sign in with Twitch: your Twitch user ID, username, display name, profile picture, chat colour and the email address on your Twitch account. If you sign up with email: your email address and password (stored only as a one-way hash).
- Twitch access tokens for the permissions you approve, so Campfire can, for example, read chat in a channel where a campfire is lit or post the messages you send from Campfire. Creators who connect their channel also let us read events such as subscriptions, VIP lists, channel-point redemptions, hype trains and bits, which drive their space's features.
- Things you create: profile details, characters and outfits, uploaded sprites, emotes and decorations, room and space layouts, settings, chat messages, direct messages, reactions, follows and creator applications.
From using Campfire
- Activity in spaces: which campfires, rooms and venues you join and when, your presence and status (such as AFK or lurking), visits, streaks, game results, coins earned and spent, and items you own.
- Twitch chat in active campfires. When a creator's campfire is lit, Campfire reads that channel's public Twitch chat to run commands like
!joinand to show chat in the space. This includes chatters who don't have a Campfire account. In that case we keep only their Twitch name, ID and colour, plus their activity in that creator's space. - Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, and request logs, used for security, rate limiting and fixing problems.
When you pay
- Your Stripe customer ID, your subscription plan and status, renewal dates, and your order history (what you bought, the amount and whether it was refunded). Card numbers and bank details go directly to Stripe and never reach our servers.
3. How we use it
- To run Campfire: sign you in, show you in spaces, sync campfires with Twitch chat, save what you create, and deliver what you buy.
- To process payments and subscriptions, prevent fraud, and handle refunds and disputes.
- To send you service emails: verifying your email, creator application decisions, receipts and billing notices. We don't send marketing email without your consent.
- To send in-app notifications, such as when a creator you follow goes live. You can change these in your notification settings.
- To keep Campfire safe: moderation, enforcing our Terms, and investigating abuse.
- To fix bugs and improve Campfire.
- To meet legal obligations, such as tax and accounting records.
Where laws like the GDPR apply, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (running the Service and your purchases), our legitimate interests (security, preventing abuse, improving Campfire), your consent where we ask for it, and legal obligations.
4. What other people see
Campfire is social. Your display name, character, outfit, profile picture, status and the messages you send in a space are visible to the other people in that space, and may appear in a creator's stream overlay that's broadcast publicly on Twitch. Creators and their moderators can see who is in their space and their community's activity there. Your profile and room may be visible to other users depending on your settings. Direct messages are visible only to the people in the conversation, though we can access them when investigating a report of abuse.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only with:
| Who | Why |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and file storage |
| Railway | Hosting our servers |
| Stripe | Payments, subscriptions, fraud prevention and receipts |
| Resend | Sending service emails |
| Twitch | Sign-in, chat, and the channel features you or a creator connect |
These providers process data on our behalf, under their own security and privacy commitments.
Content from other services. Spaces can load chat emotes from BetterTTV, FrankerFaceZ and 7TV, and creators can embed players from services like YouTube, Twitch, Spotify, SoundCloud, Vimeo and Streamlabs. Your browser connects to those services directly, so they receive your IP address and may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the safety or rights of people or of Campfire, or as part of a sale or transfer of Campfire, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
6. Cookies and browser storage
Campfire uses your browser's local storage to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences (such as font, layout and sound settings). We don't use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking or third-party analytics. Stripe sets its own cookies during checkout to prevent fraud, and embedded players from other services may set cookies as described above. Clearing your browser storage signs you out.
7. How long we keep it
- Chat messages in spaces and group chats are automatically deleted after 14 days. Direct messages are deleted after 30 days.
- Account information and what you create are kept while your account exists and deleted when you delete your account (see below).
- Purchase and billing records are kept as long as tax and accounting laws require, even after you delete your account. Stripe keeps its own records under its policy.
- Security logs and backups are kept for a limited time and then overwritten.
- A creator's record of Twitch chatters in their community stays with that creator's space. Deleting your Campfire account unlinks it from you.
8. Your choices and rights
- Delete your account yourself from your account page. This cancels your subscriptions, puts out any space you host, and deletes your profile, uploads and Campfire data, except the records described above that we must keep.
- Disconnect Twitch at any time in your Twitch connection settings.
- Edit your profile, character and settings in Campfire.
- Access, correct, export or delete your information, or object to how we use it, by emailing support@campfireclub.lol. We'll reply within 30 days and may need to confirm your identity first.
Depending on where you live (for example California, other U.S. states, the EU, the UK or Canada), you may have additional rights. These can include the right to know what we hold, to have it deleted or corrected, to take a copy, to restrict or object to processing, and to complain to your data-protection authority. We honor these rights for everyone, wherever you live, and we won't treat you differently for using them. We don't sell or "share" personal information as California law defines those terms.
9. Children
Campfire is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email support@campfireclub.lol and we'll delete it.
10. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls on our database and storage, and payment processing by a PCI-compliant provider. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
11. Where data is processed
Campfire is run from the United States, and our providers may process data in the U.S. and other countries. If you use Campfire from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in those countries, with the safeguards our providers offer for such transfers.
12. Changes
We'll update this policy as Campfire changes and revise the "Last updated" date. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in Campfire or by email before it takes effect.
